Letter of Enquiry for Class 10: Format and Examples

In the context of official and professional communication, the enquiry letter serves as a valuable tool by serving as a conduit between individuals or organizations seeking information and those with it already. An enquiry letter is essentially a formal letter written to a company or individual requesting details about a product or service.

Since they will now be more autonomous and may need to seek any organization for their continued education plans, students are frequently instructed to prepare a letter to the editor or this letter in class 10. Because of this, class 10 students are instructed in the craft of writing a solid enquiry letter, not an inquiry letter. Enquiry Letter or Inquiry Letter

An enquiry letter and an inquiry letter are entirely different from a letter to the class teacher.

Enquiry Letter for Class 10

A class 10 letter of inquiry is written to request information. You have the option to compose a letter posing a query or one answering it. All the necessary components should be included in a well-written letter of inquiry.

You should start the letter by stating 

  • your name, 
  • the reason you’re sending it, and 
  • what favor you want from the receiver. 

The person has to be given at least a few weeks to answer your query. All relevant contact information must be included. You should be courteous and official in your letter of inquiry.

Letter of Enquiry for Class 10

A formal letter that is written to request information or clarification on a matter is called an enquiry letter. One can write an inquiry letter for a number of reasons, including:

  • To inquire about a service, commodity, or course that piques your interest.
  • To find out more information about a scholarship, internship, or job you wish to apply for.
  • To inquire about a concern, grievance, or recommendation you may have.

Letter of Enquiry Format for Class 10

  • Sender’s Information: Include your contact information at the top of the letter. This should include your full name, address, phone number, and email address. If you’re writing on behalf of a company, include the company’s name and address.
  • Date: Include the date on which you are writing the letter. Place it below your contact information.
  • Recipient’s Information: Include the recipient’s name, title, organization, and address. If you don’t know the recipient’s name, you can address it to a general department or position (e.g., “To the Human Resources Manager”).
  • Salutation: Begin the letter with a formal salutation. Use “Dear Mr.,” “Dear Ms.,” or “To Whom It May Concern,” depending on whether you know the recipient’s name.
  • Opening Paragraph: In the opening paragraph, clearly state the purpose of your inquiry. Mention how you learned about the organization or opportunity you are inquiring about. This section should grab the recipient’s attention and make them want to read further.
  • Body Paragraph(s): Provide more details about your inquiry. Ask specific questions or request the information you need. If you’re inquiring about a job, mention your qualifications and interest in the position. If you’re inquiring about a product or service, specify what you need to know.
  • Closing Paragraph: Express your appreciation for the recipient’s time and assistance. Mention your willingness to provide additional information if needed. If you are inquiring about a job, express your interest in further discussions or an interview.
  • Complimentary Close: Use a polite and formal closing, such as “Sincerely” or “Yours faithfully.”
  • Signature: Sign your name above your typed name if you are sending a physical letter. If you are sending the letter via email, you can simply type your name.
  • Enclosures (if applicable): If you are including any documents or attachments with your inquiry letter, mention them at the end of the letter, such as “Enclosures: Resume, Writing Samples.”
  • Contact Information (optional): Repeat your contact information (address, phone number, and email) at the end of the letter in case the recipient needs to reach you easily.
  • Proofread: Before sending the letter, carefully proofread it for any grammatical or spelling errors. A well-written and error-free letter reflects professionalism.

Tips for Writing a Letter of Enquiry

  • Be crystal clear. State the purpose of your letter in the first paragraph, and avoid using unnecessary jargon or technical language.
  • Be polite and respectful.
  • Provide specific details.
  • Proofread carefully.
  • Follow up if necessary.
