Students of Texas International Academy (TIA), from all branches in Hyderabad, gathered at the Jeedimetla campus to participate in an NGO activity organized in collaboration with Rubaroo. This initiative aimed to encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and social awareness among students.
Rubaroo, an NGO dedicated to empowering youth through experiential learning, led the event. Their programs are designed to develop life skills that go beyond traditional academic settings. Let’s take a look at the highlights of the 2-day NGO activity by the students of Texas International Academy.
Interactive Activities
The day commenced with an ice-breaking session where all students formed a circle. Organizers divided them into teams for the “Pen Game,” a coordination activity where students passed a pen in a specific pattern to the student behind them. If any student missed the pattern, the entire team had to restart the process. This exercise served as a catalyst for students to mingle and collaborate with one another. Following this, the students engaged in a creative drawing activity.
Thought-Provoking Scenarios
To enhance critical thinking, students were divided into three main teams, each further split into three sub-teams, creating a total of nine teams. Each team was assigned a Rubaroo member to guide them. The task involved a hypothetical scenario where the world was ending, and only three members out of a list of individuals with various professions could be saved. The students were required to discuss, debate, and justify their choices, encouraging them to engage in ethical reasoning and teamwork.
Toxic River Activity
After the lunch break, students participated in the “Toxic River” activity, designed to strengthen their collaboration and communication skills. In this challenge, students had to cross an imaginary toxic river using limited resources. Success in this task depended on effective communication, strategic thinking, and teamwork. If any team member failed to adhere to the rules, the team would either lose resources or have to start the task from scratch. This activity, while enjoyable, imparted vital life lessons on perseverance and cooperation.
Feedback and Conclusion of Day 1
The first day concluded with a reflection session where students discussed their mistakes and the lessons learned from the activities. This session emphasized the importance of utilizing available resources wisely and contributing positively to society.
Visit to Other Schools (Day 2)
On the second day, TIA students visited Grace Model School and Mt. Mercy School. During these visits, they interacted with younger students and provided them with valuable insights on opportunities available after class 10. The TIA students prepared presentations and charts to visually aid in explaining the information to make sure that it was easily understood by their juniors.
Conclusion
The two-day NGO activity offered TIA students a learning experience that extended far beyond the classroom. Through their participation, students gained valuable knowledge and skills that will equip them to face real-world challenges. At the conclusion of the event, all students expressed their gratitude to Rubaroo for organizing such impactful activities, which helped them grow as individuals and as members of society.
